Extraction of English Ditransitive Constructions
This paper proposes a method to extract constructions in a formal and mathematically rigid way using the technique of formal concept analysis (FCA). Looking at lemmas of core components of constructions as objects and semantic frames of the construction instances as attributes, in terms of the FCA, a complete lattice that represents the network structure of constructions can be obtained. We con...
متن کاملBetween shifts and alternations: ditransitive constructions
In this paper I present two classes of double object constructions in Modern Greek, i.e., the genitive, as well as the double accusative, ditransitive constructions. I show that these two classes differ from one another in that not both of them permit derivational processes such as the formation of adjectival passives. I also look at the case properties associated with the verbs which head Mode...
متن کاملOn the Syntax of Ditransitive Constructions
This paper deals with modelling the argument structure of constructions with two internal arguments expressing a beneficiary/recipient and a patient/theme. It offers an analysis of the dative shift which captures both the alternative grammatical function mappings and the altered semantics of the participants of the related predicates. The LMT variant used assumes that semantic participants are ...
متن کاملAccessibility and Word Order: The Case of Ditransitive Constructions in Persian
In a most recent corpus study on Persian, Faghiri & Samvelian (2014) found a significant effect of relative length in the ordering preferences between the direct and indirect objects in the preverbal domain corresponding to ”long-before-short“. They furthermore showed that the position of the direct object mainly depends on its degree of determination, and put into question the broadly accepted...
